*special thanks to my cats for inspiring this fiendishly difficult pose* :meow:

Ben- Hello everyone!

Tonights work is a piece for my friend :iconchainsawmandy:'s contest!

These are 2 of her characters, Miranda and Alan, who star in her delightful story, My Guardian Serpent. It's a lot of fun to read, and these characters were a lot of fun to work with! Plus throwing Casey in there to mix things up was a lot of fun too :giggle:

I have a love/hate relationship with this piece. I love it because of how it turned out, and I love the characters, but pardon my french here, GAWWWWWDDAMN that was a hard pose to pull off! :faint: seriously!

I could see it in my head, how I wanted alan lying on the ground, but could not for the life of me pull it off. A moment before I was about to put my face through the monitor and my first through the tablet, I went to get some water, and my cats were all lying in a circle around my chair. it is hot here, so they like to lie on their backs to cool off, and then this pose hit me!

Transforming cat into dragon wasn't easy, and the perspective was still really, REALLY hard, but those cats saved the day!

Anyways, I hope you all like this! It is a big step in perspective for me, so I don't mind the simple background now ;) and hopefully none of you will ever get into this situation. Most dragons aren't as cool as alan :D

Overall, very well done. I really like how the grass wasn't over done. Especially in the back by the "this is so..." bubble. The faces are amazing, especially for the dragon. Without dialogue, my first impression was that the dragon had lost because someone asked him too. You can really see it on his face. It's always hard for me to draw faces because I can't make the emotions I want. You nailed them. The shadowing is a great detail that I don't normally see in this kind of art. I really like when look at the shadows closely you actual "ray-tracing". A good spot to see this is under the top front arm and the top back leg. I could have gone for a little different colors for the dragon. The green patches tend to blend in with the grass. Had they been a little more...not sure. Like a bright, blue-er green? It has a red gem, I would have almost made the green accents some kind of shade of red. That was my only gripe. The dragon itself is I nice mix of what you would think realistic drawn in a comic style. Really amazing work.
